NTE Graphics Settings: Troubleshoot Low FPS, Stutter and Tearing
Tune NTE PC graphics by symptom. Compare upscaling and frame generation, troubleshoot tearing and memory issues, and test one setting at a time without promised FPS gains.

Identify the symptom before changing settings. Persistently low FPS, occasional hitches, tearing and network lag need different checks. These are troubleshooting starting points, not our hardware benchmarks or guaranteed optimal settings. Use the options actually available in your game and driver.
First, understand: which settings hit performance the hardest?
Record your resolution, preset and frame-generation state, then repeat the same route.
- Constant low FPS: start by disabling ray/path tracing and lowering the graphics preset one step.
- Hitches when entering an area: check RAM, VRAM and disk activity as well as graphics settings.
- Texture-loading problems: compare lower textures and resolution; textures are not always a negligible performance cost.
- Slowdowns in crowds: test view distance or density separately if those options are available.
Upscaling tech: how to choose between DLSS / FSR / TSR
Compare native resolution with Quality upscaling before trying Balanced or Performance. Inspect small text, fine geometry and motion rather than assuming the most aggressive mode is best. Do not assume every GPU exposes the same DLSS, FSR or TSR choices.
Frame generation is optional, not a low-end fix by default. Establish smooth rendering with it disabled, then compare responsiveness and artifacts when enabled.
DLSS Frame Generation supports RTX 40/50; Multi Frame Generation requires RTX 50. Other vendors’ frame-generation support is a separate question. NVIDIA compatibility.

Compare camera movement and combat response as well as the displayed FPS.
Fixing screen tearing: how to set up VSync
Compare the in-game VSync toggle in a scene with visible tearing. With a variable-refresh monitor, check the monitor and GPU guidance for VRR configuration. A frame cap alone does not guarantee tear-free output.
Do not start by forcing driver VSync, Ultra low-latency mode and several external limiters together. Change one setting at a time; there is no need to force VSync simply to follow a preset when you have no tearing.
System-level prep to reduce stutter
There is no universal RAM multiplier for Windows page-file sizing. Microsoft documentation.
Start troubleshooting with system-managed sizing and sufficient free disk space. Inspect memory use and errors instead of assuming a larger manual file improves FPS.
- Close unnecessary background applications and check system requirements.
- Keep driver version notes when comparing updates.
- Restarting the game is a troubleshooting step, not the same as clearing shader caches.
- If performance degrades over a long session, inspect cooling, temperatures and power mode.
Recommendations for different visual priorities
Test order: record the baseline → disable frame generation → repeat one route with one change → compare image quality and controls → keep or revert the change.
The highest counter reading is not necessarily the best experience. This guide provides no independently measured FPS improvement percentages.
